With The Liar, I have placed myself at the center of the Seven Lies cycle, not as an authority, but as the primary subject of my own inquiry. By rendering this work as a self-portrait in cotton thread, I am acknowledging my role as the architect of these narratives, stitch by meticulous stitch.
The materiality of the work is essential to its meaning. My likeness is rendered in humble cotton, representing the tangible, everyday nature of the "speaking subject." Surrounding this figure are stumpwork elements crafted from a variety of fibers. These raised, three-dimensional forms create a literal departure from the surface, mirroring the way our lies and beliefs gain volume and weight until they overshadow the flat reality of the truth.
The blindfold I wear in the portrait represents a pivot away from the external world and toward the internal mechanisms of belief and desire. As I work the needle, I am not merely capturing a sight, but documenting the labor of a sustained conviction.
This piece is my admission that the lies we tell ourselves, about our history, our faith, and our memories, are not moral failings. They are the scaffolding of the human condition, as tactile and structured as the thread on this fabric. We do not use lies to hide the world; we use them to embroider a world we can inhabit.

A materialidade da obra é essencial para o seu significado. A minha imagem é representada em algodão simples, simbolizando a natureza tangível e quotidiana do "sujeito que fala". Em redor desta figura, elementos em stumpwork feitos com uma variedade de fibras. Estas formas tridimensionais em alto-relevo criam um afastamento literal da superfície, espelhando a forma como as nossas mentiras e crenças ganham volume e peso até ofuscarem a realidade plana da verdade.
A venda que utilizo no retrato representa uma mudança de foco do mundo externo para os mecanismos internos da crença e do desejo. Ao trabalhar com a agulha, não estou apenas a captar uma imagem, mas a documentar o trabalho de uma convicção sustentada.
Este texto é a minha confissão de que as mentiras que contamos a nós próprios sobre a nossa história, a nossa fé e as nossas memórias não são falhas morais. São a estrutura da condição humana, tão palpáveis e estruturadas como a linha deste tecido. Não usamos a mentira para esconder o mundo; usamos para bordar um mundo que podemos habitar.
